Visa type depends on the nature of your visit and your nationality

All individuals coming to the UK must ensure that they have the appropriate documents for entry.  The requirement to obtain a visa entry clearance prior to entering the UK will depend on the purpose of your trip, how long you intend to stay and your nationality.

EEA and Swiss Nationals - European Economic Area Nationals and Nationals of Switzerland have free movement in the UK.  This means that they do not need permission to enter the UK in order to live, work or study.  However, work restrictions apply to citizens of EEA Accession States, which currently includes Croatia.  Non-EEA family members of EEA Nationals also have free movement rights but should apply for an EEA Family Permit before coming to the UK.

Visa Nationals - Citizens of countries who require a visa prior to entering the UK for all purposes are called Visa Nationals.  If you are a visa national, you will need to obtain the appropriate visa entry clearance in order to visit, work, study or settle in the UK.

Non-Visa Nationals  - In most cases, non-visa nationals will be allowed to enter the UK for up to 6 months for visit purposes without the need to first obtain a visa entry clearance.  For all other purposes, non-visa nationals should ensure they have the appropriate documents and visa for entry.
